MidwifeThinking

The MidwifeThinking platform was created in 2010 with the aim of sharing free evidence-based information about birth with parents and anyone involved in providing maternity care or education. The platform consists of a blog and related social media: facebooktwitterinstagram

The blog publishes posts about topics with links to research and further resources. These posts are updated regularly to include the latest evidence and information.

Since the site opened it has been accessed by over 5 million readers from every country in the world. It currently has over 10,000 subscribers and around 1000 visitors per day; and is archived by Pandora (National Library of Australia and Partners). Posts have been translated into a number of languages including French, Russian, German and Spanish; and a number of posts have been published in magazines.

In 2019 MidwifeThinking was awarded the International Maternity Expo – Practice Innovation Award for an ‘outstanding contribution to maternity and midwifery services’.

Reader feedback

“As an obstetrician with three decades of practice… I enjoyed your article very much. THIS is what we should be taught as medical students… to help set the ground for understanding an undisturbed birth/basic physiology.” – Evita

“Every post that I have read on your blog (plus your thesis) has been informative so thank-you for sharing! It has helped me to write my birth plan and to ask for informed consent and evidence in decision-making. Thank-you and keep up the good work!” – Rebecca

“Your articles are fascinating, stimulating and inspiring and written with clarity and honesty. You make no secret of your own private beliefs, yet you do not allow them to cloud the issue you are discussing nor prevent you from delivering factual information transparently… In doing so, the reader gains a greater understanding of the processes you describe, and give the issue deeper and more critical thought.” – Shanti
